ExuberantCtags is superior to etags in many ways.  You can find it here:

* Supports more languages than etags.
(note ExuberantCtags Version 5.8 does not support Objective-C but etags does)
* Has better rules for matching files to languages.
* Has decent handling of preprocessor switches.
